Workforce Development

Welcome

The Workforce Development Board is a local board required by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 that is charged with planning, policy development and implementation, and oversight responsibilities for the workforce development services and programs under WIA. It’s a majority private sector Board, appointed by local elected officials, overseeing programs for adults, workers who have been laid-off from jobs (dislocated workers), welfare recipients, youth, job seekers and businesses. The non-private sector Board members represent local community partners such as public schools, colleges, vocational rehabilitation, organized labor, economic development, the employment services, community based organization and department of social services. The WDB works in partnership with local elected officials.

The vision of the Mid-Carolina Workforce Development Board is to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Chatham, Harnett, Lee and Sampson Counties.

The Mid-Carolina Workforce Development Board intends to affect the following in our Local Area:

  1. Ensure there is an adequate employment base.
  2. Ensure that employer needs are met.
  3. Ensure that employees are well-trained and ready for work.
  4. Ensure that employees and employers have ready access to all required and/or desired workforce information, data and services.

The desired end result is a highly skilled, productive, self-sufficient workforce in the Mid-Carolina Local Area at a reasonable cost.
